Academic Help: Universities Pitch in to Support 11 for 11
On Remembrance Day 2011, we were lucky to have several of our friends on university campuses across the country put on events to support us. At our core, Hero Fund is about grassroots engagement so we were really excited to take our cause to students from so many different parts of the country. Here’s a list of some of the events that went on:
— At the University of British Columbia our UBC Hero Fund affiliate put on a Hot Chocolate For Heroes event that gave folks a tasty beverage in exchange for a donation to support our 11 for11 campaign.
— At Queens University in Kingston, a great team put on a ‘Busking for Heroes’ event in front of their campus library. There was music, warm beverages and a great chance for students to contribute to 11 for 11. Talk about a cool study break for the folks inside the library cramming for midterms!
— At McGill University the Campus Conservatives club put on a pub night for Hero Fund. Folks of all different political stripes came out to enjoy a pint and simultaneously contribute to our 11 for 11 campaign.
— At the University of Toronto, mere steps from where it all began, our Toronto team put on Hot Chocolate for Heroes. We went through several large pots of warm tastiness and were deeply moved by the kind words of folks passing by who donated to 11 for 11.
Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to organize and attend these events. You can’t have a grassroots charity without the grassroots, and you guys got it done. We’re always looking to expand our campus presence, so feel free to get in touch with us if you’d like to help spread Hero Fund to your campus.
